Shadows that Lurk in the Light: Chapter Twelve:
Chapter Twelve:
“Deliah, I’m afraid.” My voice was barely audible as I whispered.
“Tracey, I am too.” whispered my sister. Noises, footsteps, knowing he was out there somewhere, an escapee from prison, hell-bent on finishing what he started.
As the noises grew closer, my sister and I remained as still as possible. To keep us safe, my sister barricaded us in. This was not an overreaction on her part. The shadows walking across the porch spoke for themselves.
Lord, when is this going to end, am I always going to feel like I am chasing shadows?
I didn’t verbalize the questions, we needed to be as still as possible. I didn’t want him to know we were home, my sisters car was locked in the garage, so maybe he would think we were home, I prayed he would.
I knew it was him even without seeing anything but shadows or hearing anything but footsteps. Before the night I was shot, I had never seen him and had never known him, so I had no idea someone would do something like this. However, he had hurt me, changed my life, and now he wanted to do even more harm.
I don’t want to keep living in fear, Lord, I want my life back.
