Chapter Twenty Five:

As I was still half asleep, I picked up my ringing cell phone. Considering that it was early in the morning, the only person who could call me would be Deliah, but that was unnecessary since I was now living in her home. As I sat down, I listened to the ringing of my cell phone to determine what the number was. Bleary-eyed I was unable to determine what the number was. A sense of urgency led me to pick up the telephone.

“Is this Tracey Adkins?” Asked a slightly accented voice.

“Yes it is.” I confirmed.

“We have reason to believe that the same man who shot you might also be responsible for the disappearance of your parents.”

“They did not vanish.” I exclaimed in disbelief. “They left a note for us.”

“It is possible that they may have been forced to leave the note. It is likely that he threatened you or your sister with harm.”

Feeling guilty, I swallowed hard. If this were the case, I would have spent years resenting my parents for something they were unable to control.

As Deliah walked into my room, sleep still remained in her eyes. While I had not intended to wake her, the fact that she was standing there told me that it had done so, and the concern in her…
