Shadows that Lurked in the Light: Chapter Eighteen:

Despite my best efforts, I still struggle with the fear of what lies hidden in the shadows, not only at night, but in bright daylight as well. It was a bright sunny afternoon in April when the monster came out of the shadows to kill me, perhaps I shouldn’t call him a monster, but what else would you call a man with dead eyes and a murderous heart? In a split second, a stranger changed my life forever, wanting me dead, for no other reason than to fulfill his twisted need to kill someone.

Without my Jesus and my sister, I would have let fear take over, but the more I reminded myself God was in control, the more at ease I felt. Even though I sometimes struggled when I heard strange noises, or thought I heard breaths echoing in the shadows, I knew who was ultimately in control. In spite of that, I was still struggling with grief, because he had taken far more from me than my ability to walk, he had taken from me the innocence of believing I could go grocery shopping safely.

If I was having a bad day, Deliah always had words of encouragement for me. The fact that my little sister had taken on the role of elder sister didn’t matter anymore, as we had both been through something life changing. I had been shot, but I wasn’t the only one hurt.
