Shadows that Lurked in the Light: Chapter Seventeen

Chapter Seventeen:

I would stare out the Bay Window when I couldn’t sleep, mesmerized by the night sky. The hand of God was evident to me, even when I was questioning so much else. The pain of the past few months was still strong, but God’s Grace kept me alive. The monster shot me close range, but I was still alive, and once I was down, it stood over me, pointing a gun directly at my head. I played dead to live. The gun jammed when he tried firing again, and someone came out of the store to find me bleeding. Angels wore khakis and a pink butterfly hoodie that day.

I wanted to meet the woman who saved my life, but no one could locate her. Perhaps she was an angel or a vision from God. Whatever the case might be, I was grateful to be alive despite the pain.

Lord, I hope she knows how grateful I am, because she saved my life. You know who she was, and I know you made sure she was there.

My outlook was so much better when I thought about things of God instead of the monster. As long as he didn’t escape again, my life wasn’t controlled by a man who spent a lifetime in prison.

Deliah too helped to distract me from my fear, from the worries. I had to remind myself he was locked up, in prison where he belonged but the fact that he escaped once made me more than a…
