Knew

She’d fight

For her country

For freedom

For the things she

Believed

In from the time

She was a little girl

Wearing her Daddies

Navy blues.

She knew the

Dangers

She’d heard

The stories

But she knew too

Someone had to go

So why not her.

She carried

Herself

With strength

And courage

Even as she walked

Through hell on earth

Enemy gunfire

Bombs

So much

That could kill her.

She made it home

Not untouched or unscathed

The horrors of war
