She Couldn’t tell

Her Story

At least not fully

He tried

To destroy her that

Not so long

Ago

Night.

He had broke

Her that night

In a way

That went deeper

Than the violence

Inflicted upon her.

He had spoken

In dreams

And second chances

But looking back

Is happenstance.

She had believed

His thinly veiled

Lies

He’d change

He’d do better

Until the moment

She lay there

A knife in her spine.

She had believed

She’d die

On that cold floor

Alone

Only Jesus and her

But a gentle hand

Carried her through
