She Wasn’t Okay (In Memory)
M.W, in the yellow, August.16.1970-February.09.2007
She wasn’t okay
She uttered
In silence and in
Speech.
She had fought
Long and hard
Transplants, Amputation,
Abuse,
How much could one
Take
But giving up
She would never do
She fought like a
Mighty warrior
In a battle
And I guess
She was.
It took a lot
For her to admit her
Pain
But friendship
For us was
About learning
To listen to
What was said
In the silence.
We laughed and cried
Over the big things
And the little
Grief and joy
Often mingled together.
On a cold February day
I dialed her number
But even as i dialed
Before her husband
Uttered a word
I knew
She was gone,
Home with good
Free from pain
A body made new.
