She’s Twenty Six

She’s twenty six now, no longer a little girl, in-fact she has a little girl of her own, a proud Mother of a beautiful three year old girl. But she still texts of calls when she or Paisley are sick, what’s the best medicine to gift, question about learning toys, or tears when she’s melting down, overwhelmed by everything.

I’m her safe place when times are tough. I’m the person she talks to about all things books, cooking and medicine, and I watch in awe as I think how she’s grown.

In the early days of her life, she fought, a month in the hospital and finally she came home, the child the doctors spent far to much time thinking in terms of the things she was not going to do, when all I saw were a world of possibilities, I saw all the things she could be, and she’s proven the doctors wrong, she’s learned, she’s grown, she has made this Auntie so proud!

From the time she was a little girl, we shared a bond that is more like Mother and daughter than Auntie and Niece.

She’s Twenty Six, and I’ll still fight for her, remind her, she’s beautiful, comfort her when she’s hurting, give her advice if that’s what she needs, and I hope she knows I’ll continue to be her safe place to land.
