The Summer of 1991 Paula Abdul’s song Rush, Rush topped the Billboards Top One Hundred, I loved that song that year, never mind that I was not yet fourteen, it was between my seventh and eighth grade years, that Summer my Foster Cousins were up, my Grandparents took in Foster kids for years, those in need of temporary care for various reasons. The one cousin was just a bit older than I was, the other around my brothers age. My older cousin was a little fast, I honestly remember that clearly, this girl picked up men at the local hardware store, she was fourteen though, she certainly did not act or dress like it.

I grew up in the Mormon Church and though my parents were far from as strict as most, I knew they would have not let me do the things this girl was doing, we contacted her Mother about this, but nothing was done, because a short time later my younger cousin decided to ride her bike off the porch, breaking her arm in three places, we took her to the hospital of course and had her all casted up, but she still was not ready to go home, instead wanting to stay with us for a summer of long car rides, listening to Paula Abdul on the old black radio, well it wasn’t Old then lol! There were trips to the lake, swimming at the pool outside the Red-Lion hotel, work at the laundromats to earn a little pocket cash.
