Dew of G-d
The world was in a state of chaos, Jews were being attacked once again, just as they had been for thousands of years, but in the modern age, the weapons became more deadly, quicker, and more devastating.
The grandparents of our family had experienced hell once before, under Nazi Germany, and Bobe had escaped as a child, just before the travel ban for Jews was imposed. She had left for America, from the home our ancestors had known going back centuries Amsterdam. As a result of a madman’s hatred, it became unsafe for Jews to live in Amsterdam and the danger spread throughout Europe.
We mourned as once again war ravaged the Middle East. The sorrow in Bobe’s aging eyes spoke of the pain, of watching the destruction, the torture, the pain, once again, even though our family had not been in Israel for centuries.
“Talia, I never want to experience a situation like this again. Do people have the ability to learn from the past?”
“Bobe, I am not sure I will be able to answer that question.” My hand touched her aged hands. These hands had seen years of hard work.
“I was able to survive the Holocaust. “We were able to leave before we were forced into a ghetto or a concentration camp.” Bobe explained. Our family did not escape in time, we escaped in time, but many others failed to recognize…
