Tell Us A Story (A Poem of Remembrance)

Tell us a story

I Pleaded sitting

On the old

Rug

In front of

The wood

Burning

Stove,

Spots blackened

Where hot

Embers flew

Quickly stepped

Out.

Often on those days

We’d hear the

Rain pouring

In an almost rhythmic

Way

But it was

The story we

Wanted to hear

Not the rain.

“I was four

The day was like

This cold and

Rainy

With thunder and

Lightning

It was winter

1918

And I had

Gotten

A new pair of

Shoes

Blue pattent letter

I ran under that bed

Shaking
