Those sprawling plants produced many ripe squash. I gave some away to a local organization called Farm to Pantry. Still, more needed a home. Once ripe, the squash can be stored in a cool, dry place and last months. Instead of hoarding them, however, I started to bring them to every gathering I could think of — neighborhood get-togethers (no thanks, we have our own), dinners with friends, football games. Eventually, they all found homes.
