By the time her formal education was finished, Princess Elizabeth was among the most educated royals in Europe, speaking French, Dutch, Italian, and Spanish. She was also capable of writing in Latin and Italian. In later life, she added Welsh, Cornish, Irish and Scottish. Adding to these her native English, in total, Elizabeth may have spoken nine languages. Not quite as many as Queen Cleopatra was reported to speak, but still incredibly impressive.
