The Danger We Don’t Always See

When Giving Turns Dangerous

There’s dangers we can spot and dangers that sneak up on us, and I was reminded of this when I heard that an Atcaa volunteer helped with various needs, such as paying bills and grocery shopping, but that didn’t happen while he was volunteering, but it happened near where he lived when he intervened to stop an assault. He was stabbed with a fourteen-inch knife that was found hanging on a fence like a trophy by the police.

Volunteering at a food pantry myself, I see things in place to prevent a potential tragedy, and if we feel uneasy, we can refuse to serve the person, not a choice we enjoy, but our safety must come first.

Mental health is a very real issue, and the fact is we deal with, and that in itself presents a real problem, and there are those who just wish to harm others, so we must be diligent. Thankfully, over the years we have become acquainted with most of our clients, and they are mostly good people.
