Life’s Fragile Gift

There was something miraculous about today, as well as something nerve-wracking. The fact that she had survived was a miracle, but she was frightened as she gathered things together for teaching Sunday School that she had missed for six weeks. A few kids came to see her while she was in the hospital, but most couldn’t. By the time she was ready to go home, nearly every inch of her room was covered with homemade cards and gifts, making everyone who entered the room smile.

One moment you could be shopping for groceries, thinking about the Sunday School class you had taught for the past few years, and then the next you could be in the hospital, facing a life that has never been the same.

While Hannah looked at the clock, knowing she needed to leave, she took into account that things took her longer. Despite the fact that her legs no longer worked, she was eager to return to Church and the kids who had become like family to her.

Hannah wheeled herself outside, waiting for her friend Eloise. She was fortunate to have such wonderful and supportive friends, a blessing from God that she would never take for granted.

She had always known life was a gift, but now Hannah understood on a personal level just how small the gift was.
