Isaiah 9:6–7 NIV

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. [7] Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

As we get wrapped up in the commercialism of Christmas, it’s important to remember the one gift that really matters, that long ago infant child. He came to save us from our sins.

What must Mary have felt knowing she carried the son of God, knowing that Jesus bore the sins of humankind, knowing that while many would worship him, others would seek to destroy him?

I can’t imagine the pain Mary must have felt thinking what her Son would have to do. How scared she must have been knowing she had been given that responsibility!

I was nearly broken when I learned I was paralyzed from the waist down. Jesus was literally broken carrying the weight of our sins, but first he was an infant, the long awaited Savior, our bridge between God and man, God in human form.

But first he was that infant lying in a manger, a feeding trough for the animals. He did not come with the riches of a king, but he was humanities King!

As you open your presents this day, remember the greatest gift of all doesn’t reside under a tree, he has one desire to reside in the hearts of you and me.
