Remember our Heroes

When I was in the hospital, I came to the realization that I was alive, and free because others bore that cost for me.

I understood that freedom wasn’t free, someone had to pay for it, but the accident gave me a new perspective. Every breath was a gift that I had been given a greater appreciation for.

This isn’t about me, it’s about those who sacrificed everything so that I could sit here today, and that’s exactly what I’ll do.

I may not be able to stand and pay respect to all who fought, but I can show my respect, and I don’t need working legs to do that. Gratitude is all I need.

Sitting here, I want to remember stories they can no longer tell.

I will look at the empty table, and remember what it symbolizes.

I will remember the sacrifices, and be grateful!
