She Was There

She was there one moment and gone the next.

I stared at the photos lining my desk, the photos of the three of us, that ended six years ago. Now it was Esther and I, and Ruth.

Ruth reminded us all of Rachel, her spirit, her determination.

And knowing how quickly things could change. We knew a reality that we could not protect Ruth from, we could not protect her from the hate that left us targets. The hate that had taken Ruth from us, but we could also show her the love that would bring Rachel home to them. And the determination that had let Bobe survive the Holocaust.

I looked at the last picture of the three of us. My sisters and I happy on the beach, less than a week later Rachel would go missing.

We were happy, so full of life.

Rachel was always smiling and laughing. Always full of life.

She dreamed of helping others in some way, maybe becoming a teacher or a physical therapist, but that had been taken from her too, the day they took her away.

But I knew something now that I had not before, Rachel was very much alive, it had been confirmed and now we were going to

Work on getting her home. But we would have to do it with the help of law…
