The Algorithm is a Fickle Fellow
Although there are lots of great tips on how to find success on Medium, some even claim a guaranteed minimum payout each month, but let’s face it, there are no guarantees. While there are a lot of great tips, implementing someone else’s style or tips won’t guarantee X amount of dollars. However, setting personal goals is fine.
Post consistently, daily or weekly, whatever works for you, build an audience, and write about what you are passionate about. That’s one piece of advice you will hear that I agree with. Fiction writers should also keep in mind that every good piece of fiction contains some truth.
Leaving out some facts for the sake of privacy is fine, pretending to be someone else is not.
There was controversy surrounding James Frey’s “memoir” A Million Little Pieces when parts of it were fabricated; in other words, don’t pass off fiction as truth. There are autobiographical novels, but this is something completely different.
Many people advise me to find my niche, but I’ve never been successful. Instead, I write what I feel led to write, even if it isn’t trending. My writing style will be what works for me, and you should do the same.
Do not be discouraged by the ever elusive, yet ever present Algorithm.
