They Are Struggling, We Are Struggling
Food Pantry Diaries
People are struggling, and they are hungry, and I’m not just talking about the physical hunger, but something deeper. We want to help but some are shut off most are not though, they appreciate us, they think us, they get excited over the little things that are really not so little in the scheme of things. We give them what we can, but if I am honest there are times we fall short, food runs low, donations slow down, but we always try to give them something and often that means giving from our own lunches. But there is something we can always give, that costs nothing, compassion.
Thursday one lady I know came in, grateful of course as she always is, but a week ago Friday we received a donation of about two dozen coats from another local organization, and when I offered her a coat for her granddaughter she was ecstatic.
But there are times we have to be careful, we have to be aware. There are always at least two of us who have to volunteer it’s for our safety, because though we want to help, we have to be realistic and not put ourselves in a dangerous situation.
