Tired eyes
Tell the story
Of the ones
They watched
Fall,
The ones who
Came back
Covered in coffins
Draped in Flags
Life changes
When you watch
Comrades fall
Broken and bloodied
Dead at your feet.
Their eyes tear
With the hate
The disrespect
As if a single
Soldiers to
Blame
For the cost of
War.
Freedom isn’t free
This much they
Know to be true
They’ve seen
The cost
Spelled out
Blood red
In mud
And sand.
They carry a
Burden
Those who haven’t
Been there
