War Is Hell.. I Survived (Fictional Poem)

Taps echoes
In my mind
As bullets and bombs
Detonate by my side.

I signed up for this
Fight
So a Child May
Know what it is
To be free.

I’ve been called
A thousand horrible
Names
And have stared
Evil in the eye
While a little girl
Stands to my side
Looking terrified.
This is why I fight.

War it is hell
But we live in a
Fallen world
And sometimes
The price is war.

Taps echoes
In my mind
As do the promises
I made to those
Waiting for Me
Stateside.
“I’ll make it home.

War it is hell
But by his Grace
I survived.
