We Lost a Legend
Toby Keith Dies at 62
Last night, like so many others, I woke up to the news that Toby Keith passed away after battling stomach cancer. He was diagnosed in September 2021.
Toby Keith Covel was born on July.8.1961 and died on February.06.2024. Toby Keith was an American singer, songwriter, actor, and record producer. Before leaving Mercury Records in 1998, he released his first four studio albums — 1993's Toby Keith, 1994's Boomtown, 1996's Blue Moon and 1997's Dream Walkin’, plus a Greatest Hits package. All of these albums got Gold or higher certifications, and he had several Top Ten singles, including “Should’ve Been a Cowboy”, the most-played country song of the 90s.
When Keith signed to DreamWorks Records Nashville in 1998, he released his breakout single “How Do You Like Me Now?” It was the number one country song of 2000, and one of several chart-toppers during his tenure at DreamWorks Nashville. All three of his next albums, Pull My Chain, Unleashed, and Shock’n Y’all, produced three more number ones. In 2004, he released a second Greatest Hits album and then Honkytonk University.
