The Loss of Connection During th e Pandemic, Senio, Disabled…
One of the groups that were most hurt during the months of social isolation, months where loved ones were separated, isolated. Many connected via facetime, zoom, or others, but many seniors do not have the technology or knowledge for Zoom, and others simply do not have the mental capacity to use it, imagine expecting someone with Dementia to operate the latest technology?
The Seniors who were most affected were the ones in long term care facilities, where for months loved ones were unable to see them. And sadly some had to die without the comfort of having loved ones beside them, and the pain of not being able to connect with those they loved often lead to depression and or worse.
Even the younger generations who grow up knowing how to use the IPhones and Ipads or whatever the latest technology, still dealt with overwhelming loneliness, a disconnect from the world.
But the disabled were also affected by the Epidemic of loneliness. Services needed were often not available, not everything works well remotely and where the preca were necessary, the fact is people were affected in negative ways and those with disabilities were impacted by the Covid Closures in negative ways, disproportionately so, those with Intellectual and Developmental disabilities did…
