Building Up, or Breaking Down

The power of the spoken word is one of life’s greatest mysteries. All you will ever be or accomplish hinges on how you choose to govern what comes out of your mouth.”

Cindy Trimm

As writers we are well aware of the power of words, but sometimes I think people forget though words can be used to build up, they can also be used to break down. Thoughtless words thrown around hurt.

I’ve been guilty of speaking out in anger, saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Words of anger more often than not cause more harm than anything. Sometimes Saying something in a moment of anger may feel good for a moment, but that feeling is fleeting and certainly not worth it.

I’ve seen and heard the way some can use words as weapons. Words shouted out in anger or whispered in hatred both have a grip and it’s up to us how we use that power.

You’re stupid !

You aren’t good enough !

You aren’t smart enough !

You aren’t pretty enough!
