What We Can Give Them
Lessons from the Food Pantry
“There never was any heart truly great and generous, that was not also tender and compassionate.”
— Bishop Robert South
We provide food, coats and other necessities but sometimes our hearts is touched by all they had overcome.
The food pantry is of course there to meet the basic food needs of our community but what about when we deal with those whose needs go beyond food, and what is implemented if someone comes in with not such good intentions?
As for the first questions we have a list of resources that we can reach out to and if we are uncomfortable we can step away from that situation, the rule of thumb is that there is always two of us on site and preferably three but at the very least two of us, and we are on the Church property with people in the office, and neighbors on all sides of us, neighbors who would help if it became necessary.
But what if someone needs to talk, maybe just vent. Well that we are both prepared for and qualified as a Deacon, it’s definitely something I am used to. This isn’t about that though, it’s about reaching out to those who need us the most.
“Look for a way to lift someone up. And if that’s all you do, that’s enough.”
