When the Going Get’s Tough

Chapter Four:
The murder of Alexis changed our family, and now I was once again facing a change, a change I hadn’t asked for!
When I was shot, I was in the parking lot of our local home improvement store, finally getting the washer and dryer I desperately needed.
There was no doubt in my mind that my life had changed. I sometimes forget when I wake up in the morning, but as soon as I try to get out of bed, I remember.
I fell the first time, laying on the floor for a few moments, allowing myself to feel the grief, tears, anger before getting up and scooting to the wheelchair.
Talk about being humbled.
But the pain I felt even as I lay down on the floor, tears flowing down my face, was nothing compared to what I felt when I found out Alexis had been murdered. I was only ten, but twenty years later that memory is still so vivid.
My Mother had come down to the school and pulled me out of classes for the day. I knew something was off even then…
