A Broken Start

Chapter Eight:

Elaine and her family have been very helpful to me, letting me stay in their guest home, but some days pretending to be happy is harder than others. I am struggling with not knowing where Bri is, but I am also struggling with my injuries. The fact that I can’t be on the ground, searching for my sister, hurts. Although I do what I can, I feel like I should be doing more.

Bri must be so scared, I know I am just thinking about it. My mind always takes me to places I don’t want to go to, and I can’t help but worry about what may be happening to her. There are some days that are harder than others. To be honest, they are all hard, since all I want is to find and bring home my little sister.

As a Christian, I pray a lot because that’s something I can do, and honestly it’s the only thing that has gotten me through these past few weeks. It is too long to wonder where Bri is or to pray that she is okay after a few weeks. The reality, however, is so much darker. Our Mother sold my sister for drugs, she is nowhere to be found. No one can tell me whether she is hungry, or if she is cold.

Giving up on Brianna is not an option for me. I am doing my best to keep the faith. Fighting for my baby sister is worth fighting for, and that’s what I’m doing, but the monster who…
