Some days are harder than others, both for Bri and for myself. There were days when the weight of everything we had been through became heavier. During those hard days, we relied on the Lord, and Elaine was always there for us, providing the motherly care Bri and I hadn’t received for quite some time.

My scars were more visible, but what Bri went through was so much heavier, a weight no one should have to carry, let alone a little girl. I was deeply wounded to learn that my sister had been injured by something far more severe than the bullet that had paralyzed me.

I knew Bri or I needed Elaine, but more importantly, the good Lord knew that we needed Elaine. He had given her the courage to open her home to us, when it seemed there were no other options, and she had been there for me when Bri was missing. In spite of the fact that the Lord had brought her back, evil people had left scars on her that I was unsure would ever be able to heal.

“Chelsea, why does bad things sometimes happen to kids?.” Bri asked as she climbed into my lap and rested her head on my shoulder. The weight of everything she was carrying was apparent to me. Although she had begun therapy, some answers were difficult to come by.
