When She Was Stolen-Chapter Six
Where We Call Home
The time has come for me to leave for home, not the house where all the memories are, but the one where Bri and I should be making new memories, but she’s not here.
However, I won’t give up on her, I have to believe that one day my sister will be found, and I hope against hope that she will be found alive, despite the statistics. Despite this, Bri is more than a statistic; she’s my sister, and I’ll fight for her.
I haven’t seen my mother once in the weeks I’ve been here. At first, I was angry and bitter, but now I feel sorry for the way the drugs have transformed her into something we are no longer able to recognize. Mother was a different person before the drugs took hold. I only wish Bri could be comforted with happier memories of our Mother. Unfortunately the addiction took hold of Mom when she was only two.
The community has stepped up in Bri’s search, as if she has become everyone’s daughter, even though our mother doesn’t have the mindset to help. As a matter of fact, I still think Mother might be the reason Bri is missing. She no longer seems to comprehend what she did, the cost of her addiction, but I understand, and so does Bri. Although at only seven, I wish that this was something she didn’t have to understand.
