Please Keep these things in Mind

Over the last couple of years, volunteering at a Food Pantry (and using common sense) has taught me about what is needed And what is not.

In the first place, let’s discuss what not to donate, namely food that is extremely outdated. No matter how good you think that chilli can from 2019 is, we don’t want it. Nor do we want that sauerkraut jar from 2010. If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t donate it. There is also a need to ensure that pet food is up-to-date.

Every pantry has different needs, but I can guarantee no one wants to see the gross stuff you just didn’t want to throw out. It’s great to keep garbage out of landfills, but it doesn’t mean we should give it away to those in need.

What most pantries need are things like can openers and canbed goods with pop tops are also a real need because often we get the unhoused who may not have access to these things, Boxed milks, I.E shelf stable milks, as well as all dairy products. Small plastic flash lights, bottled water, seasonal produce…
