Where are you

The caring little girl

I once knew

To the young woman

Who pushed me away

Shouting

“You’re not family

You never were.”

But I bandaged

A hundred “owies”

And did my best

To scare

The monsters away?

Where are you

The little girl

That used to love

To laugh and dance

And begged to

Come and stay?

Where are you

The baby who

I held and watched

In awe,

Promising

I would do

The things

Aunties do?

Where are you,

Buried under

The armor of

Hate and pain,

Waiting to come

Out

Once more?
