A Short Story

*This is fictional but is loosely inspired by my best friend who passed away in 2007.

Life can change in an instant, a split second and yOU can find your world turned upside down. And you may not always have a choice in the way you react to the situation, you can let yourself become broken, or you can find your strength.

The journey to getting back to normal or this new definition of normal is not going to be easy, but there comes a time you learn to get up, and get back on your feet so to speak, or in my case, you get back on your remaining foot, while you learn to rebuild your life, a life as an amputee. I’m not about to lie and say it isn’t daunting at first, and even now I’m not going to lie and pretend it’s always easy, because it isn’t, and yes there are moments of grief. But do I think that I have a good life, do I think that I am blessed? Certainly!

The journey from amputation to where I am now, has been far from easy, I’m not going to pretend otherwise. Thankfully I am at the point where the good days outweigh the bad. I can walk, exercise, or even run, most days. I don’t look at my life as limited in any way.

I had a long road to go before I got to where I am at now, and I struggled for awhile. I saw myself as broken, I know now that’s not the case, a part of my body maybe…
