When Life Seems Impossible

*Trigger warning this article talks about suicide and suicide survivors, if this is a trigger for you, please feel free to scroll on by.

I’ve always considered Rascal Flatts to be one of my favorite Country groups because they don’t shy away from dealing with the tough issues, from Cancer to lost loves, and in the case of today’s song, suicide.

The song Why was released on September 29, 2009, but its message remains timeless. Several years after high school, I learned a classmate, a very talented young artist, had committed suicide.

Prior to the release of Why I Learned of Kristen Jane Anderson while flipping through the stations on Television I was drawn to an episode of Oprah where this brave young woman, shared her testimony. She survived a suicide attempt, laying down in the train tracks one day, she felt the weight of thirty three freight cars run over her, woke up to the realization her legs were gone. She survived, and is now a Mother, wife, and well sought out public speaker.
