Member-only story
With A Silent Humility
He went to war
In a far off land
That Hero whose blood was Shed
On Foreign Sand.
She never played
With Barbies
GI Joes were more her game
But childhood games were far
Away as she watched IEDS
Take out life and limb.
He never talks about “Nam.” anymore
That war still rages in his head.
As he silently fights to be understood.
She remembers the stories
Her Grandfather told
Of liberating Auschwitz
And Birkeaneau
So many bodies no dignity there
Thrown out like trash
And those who survived little more
Than walking Skeltons
It was only by God’s Grace any survived.
They paid a high price
They sacrificed
But even amidst the pain
They say they would do it again.
With A Silent Humility
And no thought of Praise
They risked their lives
Those hero’s who sacrificed.
