Chapter One:

I felt as if I had been weighed down , my eyes heavy as I fought to open them. I tried to remember what happened, tried to adjust to the light. The sounds and smells told me in the hospital, but I had no idea why, no memory of what had happened to land me in the hospital.

As my eyed adjusted to the light, and noticed Elaina sitting on what looked like a very uncomfortable chair next to my bed, she looked a little disheveled in jogging pants, and a t-shirt, her hair in a messy bun, far from the more conservative look my sister usually wore, she usually looked like she was about to step into a business meeting with a fortune five hundred president.

“You’re awake.” Elaina said. “Mom and Dad went to your place to shower and get some rest, it’s been two weeks.”

I tried to wrap my mind around what she was saying. Two weeks since what?

I looked at my sister, hoping for answers.

Elaina moved closer to my bed, grabbed my free hand, and squeezed. “Do you remember anything about that day?”

“I don’t.” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

“Maybe that’s for the best Talia.” Elaina said gently, what matters now is that you are awake.”
